A dynamic role has opened up for an experienced Housing Option Officer in a London local authority. 

 

The Role:

You will work in a busy team providing a frontline service and working on rota for those who are homeless or threatened with homelessness.

You will have significant experience in monitoring cases and processes to comply under the Homelessness Reduction Act, as well as providing support with the statutory review process and completion of government statistical returns.

You will help in preventing homelessness and look to offer viable options and solutions; these will include but are not limited to, planned ways of leaving home for singles and families, mediation support, private rented sector accommodation, measures to help support victims of domestic abuse. The role will involve managing a caseload and applications; they will need to be able to write legally binding letters to a high standard, complete personalised housing plans and agree steps and carry out reviews with customers. Successful candidate will have to carry out acceptance on cases where homeless could not be prevented or relieved.

To maximise housing solutions, you will work collaboratively with key partners and stakeholders to provide the best prospect for a client to secure and sustain accommodation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interviewing applicants, demonstrating good telephone manner / skills as all interviews are conducted by telephone at present;

  • Participate in a duty rota of regular telephone appointments, dealing with homeless emergencies, delivering general housing advice, responding to emails and referrals;

  • Assessing homeless applications under prevention and relief duties and developing personal housing plans with clients;

  • Assessment and investigation, reaching s184 decisions with confidence, particularly around vulnerability;

  • To work under own initiative and be very confident in dealing with applications and reaching decisions.

Applicant Requirements:

  • Qualifications: N/A;

  • Experience: 2+ years working within a similar role;

  • Compliance: Current DBS check;

  • Hours: 37 hours per week
